Many billions of people live in this world,
all from different cultures and with different beliefs, but we all have one
thing in common. We are humans. Being human means that despite all our
many, many differences, we are all still basically the same deep down. We have
the same feelings and the same fears. We laugh at things we find funny, a
unique trait from all the millions of other species that inhabit this world
with us. We feel love and we feel hate. We feel jealousy and we feel joy. All
these basic feelings are because we are human, and that's what being a human
means.
As we go through life, we all have dreams and aspirations. We
compare ourselves to others and strive to become all that we imagined to be as
we grew up. Some people have small dreams and others dream big. As adults we
spend a vast majority of our time working so we can afford all the things we
want to own and live the way we think will make us happy. But are you really
happy? Does working forty plus hours a week bring you enough material wealth to
bring happiness in your life? Yes, admittedly, working is something you have to
do like it or not, but don't mistake it as a means to happiness. Happiness is
simply a state of mind.
Think carefully about the things that make you truly happy.
Is it your wage cheque at the end of the week? Is it what you can do with the
money you earned? The best way to give you an example is to compare yourself to
a child. Statistically, children laugh on average one thousand five hundred
times a day. An adult laughs on average up to thirty times a day. Children have
no need for money; everything they need is supplied to them by their carers. So,
what is their secret of happiness? It's simply their state of mind. To a child,
everything is funny, and why shouldn't it be?
Okay, children don't have the worries that adults have and
many other factors that we have to deal with, but this is just a small example.
You should stop reading this post and think about something that really makes
you happy or something that makes you laugh. This may be something someone
said, or what one of your children did to make you laugh. It could be a clip
from Youtube or just something that really warms your heart. Stop right now and
think about this moment. The chances are you are smiling right now just
picturing this. You're smiling because it's making you happy. You are creating
a happy state of mind. Your brain is releasing pleasure hormones that make you
feel good. It's simple physics. All your troubles won't instantly vanish, but
worrying and stressing out about them won't change anything either; they will
still be there. Peter Pan had the right idea. Think happy thoughts, it really
does work so long as you don't try flying.
You don't need to live in a mansion or drive a £100,000 car
to be happy. You will find happiness in the simple things in life, not in the
things you own. Happiness really is just a state of mind. You have the choice and the power to be happy. You decide. I would suggest you be happy, everyone, and
keep smiling, you will live longer. Assuming you don't get hit by a bus or
something. LOL
